Life has a funny way of changing the script when we least expect it.
One day everything seems to be moving according to plan, and the next, it feels like the ground beneath your feet has shifted. Plans fall apart. Relationships change. Doors close. Finances get tight. Dreams feel further away than they did yesterday.
If you've ever found yourself staring at the ceiling at 2 a.m. wondering, "What now?" then this week's message is for you.
The truth is, everyone faces seasons that test them. Seasons that challenge their faith, their patience, their strength, and sometimes even their belief in themselves. But those difficult moments don't define who we are—they reveal who we are becoming.
This week, let's talk about those moments when life shakes us to our core, and why sometimes the very thing that feels like it's breaking us may actually be preparing us for something greater.
So, Welcome Back!
Even the strongest have a breaking point…
When Life Feels Like an Earthquake, what do you do?
I know that for some of you, life feels hard right now. Maybe you're going through what I like to call a life earthquake.
The thing about earthquakes is they're scary. They're unpredictable. They shake everything you thought was stable. They leave you wondering what will still be standing when the dust settles.
But here's what I've learned: earthquakes don't last forever.
The shaking eventually stops. And once it does, you have a choice. You can sit in the rubble and mourn what was lost, or you can begin rebuilding.
Maybe this earthquake came in the form of a relationship ending. Maybe it was the loss of a job, a loved one, a friendship, or financial hardship. Maybe you're carrying the weight of providing for children while trying to keep your own head above water. Maybe you're exhausted from fighting battles nobody else can see.
Life has a way of shaking us to our core.
Sometimes people are shaken out of our lives because they no longer belong in the chapter we're trying to write. Other times, they never belonged there in the first place. Sometimes God sends us warning signs, red flags, and opportunities to change direction, but we ignore them. Eventually, what we refuse to release is removed for us.
At the time, it feels unfair. It feels painful. It feels like punishment.
But often, it's preparation.
Maybe you're reading this while wondering how you're going to pay the rent. Maybe the utility bills are piling up. Maybe your car needs repairs, your registration is due, the refrigerator isn't as full as you'd like it to be, and you're doing everything you can just to survive another week.
And somewhere in the middle of all that stress, you've got these huge dreams.
Dreams of owning a business.
Dreams of starting over.
Dreams of living a life that looks completely different from the one you're living today.
But then reality shows up and says, "You can barely keep up with what you have now. What makes you think you can handle more?"
So you start thinking about giving up.
Not because you're lazy.
Not because you don't want it.
But because you're tired.
And honestly, who could blame you?
But let me ask you this...
If you throw in the towel, then what?
Will the problems disappear?
Will the bills stop coming?
Will the pain magically go away?
Probably not.
The only thing that disappears is the possibility that things could get better.
So maybe today isn't about having all the answers. Maybe it's not about figuring out the next five years of your life.
Maybe it's simply about refusing to quit.
Maybe it's about taking one more step. Making one more call. Sending one more email. Filling out one more application. Working on your dream for one more hour.
Because here's the truth: every strong foundation begins after the ground has been cleared.
And sometimes life's greatest earthquakes aren't sent to destroy you.
They're sent to make room for something stronger.
Keep going. The rebuilding season may be difficult, but it might just become the chapter that changes everything.
Keep going. The rebuilding season may be difficult, but it might just become the chapter that changes everything.
